“It was a rainy day in the Catskills when our wedding kicked off at Spillian.

DJ Karin had a great playlist lined up that we edited and crafted with her, which was very easy to edit using a shared document. We had a fun chat with Karin about our music and we were psyched to hear what she would do with our song list on our day.

And then it rained so hard, over and over. And then the sun would come out. And it would rain again. We were inside, we’d go back outside, and Karin kept the tunes going the whole time and every time we’d stop by her tent in the pouring rain or inside the venue (how was she everywhere??) she was smiling and keeping a very good attitude and playing everything we wanted and more.

Finally, the night ended with a glorious dance party on the big porch. All the energy was there to make it happen, and now that our family and friends were together, it went OFF. All the stress of the day was gone and we celebrated in that moment.

We were originally referred to Stylus DJ Entertainment from a friend who had had a great experience at their own wedding. Once we took a look at their diverse roster, and listened to the portfolio of mixes, we were pumped to find DJ Karin. We are big record collectors who enjoy an array of genres across multiple decades and we knew right away that Karin, who hosts her own radio show that plays 50s-’60s r&b/garage/soul/girl group records, would get us.

And wow did she exceeded our expectations! After we gave her a pretty extensive “taste profile,” Karin created a killer setlist that kept people entertained throughout the entire night. From cocktail hour to the last dance, people were moving, grooving, and excited by each new track. Karin totally nailed it, above and beyond!

Karin was also extremely flexible when it came to the style of mixing we were looking for. We love quick transitions and fun juxtapositions, and Karin was up for the challenge, creating an artistic yet crowd-pleasing set that kept everyone out of their seats and on the dance floor.

She is warm, professional, and very level headed. Her positive energy and calm vibe were more than we could ask for. She listens to your needs, while equally making informed suggestions along the way. At one point during our wedding, our schedule was thrown out of whack, but Karin never skipped a beat. Also, her MC-ing is spot on! She is completely in-tune with the experience and is tasteful in her choice of words and delivery.

Throughout the night and morning after, guests kept coming up to us complimenting the music & Karin’s style. The outpouring of praise for the music selection is a true testament to Karin’s skills.

“Stylus was very easy to work with and we couldn’t have been happier with our DJ. We had Karin as our wedding DJ, and she was fantastic! Having a great DJ was one of the most important aspects of our wedding planning, and Karin exceeded our expectations.

After speaking to many other DJs for several weeks, what stood out about Karin during our first conversation was the time she spent patiently listening to us and understanding our musical tastes and vision for our wedding day.

My wife and I have music tastes that are quite different from one another and we weren’t exactly sure how to incorporate both of our tastes into the wedding playlist, but Karin managed this perfectly and made the entire process incredibly easy for both of us. After our initial meeting with Karin we put together a couple of playlists to give her a better sense of our music tastes, and from there she took over and created such a beautiful playlist for the our wedding that perfectly matched the vibe that we were going for at cocktail hour, dinner, and the dance party.

Like others have mentioned, her positive energy really stood out to us and even had a calming effect on my wife and I during some of the frantic wedding planning moments. She also very gracefully handled a last minute change we made (adding a father/daughter dance the day of the wedding), and it worked out seamlessly.

And the dance party, wow! We had not initially anticipated the dancing to be one of the great highlights of our wedding, but it absolutely was because Karin curated the perfect playlist to keep both our friends and older family members on the dance floor the entire time. Several guests told us after how much they loved our DJ and had a blast dancing and even friends/family who usually don’t dance were up and dancing that night.

“We had Karin Fjellman from Stylus DJ our wedding reception in July 2019 and she was just fantastic!!! We had so many guests come up to us during and after the reception to tell us that the music was incredible. During our preparation, we had been a little concerned about finding the right DJ. We wanted to play a mix of western and Bollywood music and we were having a hard time finding a DJ whose style we liked and who we felt comfortable could mix in the two genres. In particular, we were looking for someone who was relatively quiet on the microphone and really let their music choices do the talking.

When we first talked with Karin she was up front that she hadn’t played a ton of Bollywood music, but she also was very reassuring that she was willing to listen to songs we liked and put in some work to learn music. During these early conversations, we just really enjoyed working with Karin. She was super organized and very responsive in communicating (as our preparation got busier and more stressful this was so important!). She also worked with us to gage our interest and capacity for selecting songs for the night (we had no interest in picking every song). In the end, we gave Karin about 30 songs including 15 Bollywood songs that we liked and had a conversation with her about the feel. She took that and crushed it!

Karin also did a great job during the reception of finding the right balance for how loud the music needed to be. She managed to make it so that it felt like a great dance party without blasting the music. We had a good number of older guests and it was great to see that they were able to sit and chat while still staying close enough to the dance floor to be part of the party.

This review may sounds needlessly positive, but I don’t think we can say it enough that we feel we got the best DJ, better than all of the other weddings we have been to. If Karin is not available, that’s too bad. You should still reach out to Stylus and see what other DJs are available. We worked with Jane who manages Stylus initially and she was super organized and helpful in talking through who was available.
