“If you want to have an amazing dance party at your wedding, book DJ Mariko! She delivered our theme “bangers only” with a creative mix of songs and played a crucial role in giving us our dream wedding. We received so many compliments from our guests, including one who exclaimed “I guess we are going to have to bring DJ Mariko to every party going forward!” She was great to work with from day one – super organized, very professional, prepared for every meeting, and had a great way of getting to know us so she could set the right mood and pace for our wedding. There was never a moment – from the cocktail hour, to the dinner, to the two dance sets, where we weren’t delighted with her song choices. She was excellent at reading the room and getting everyone up dancing and kept the energy high all night. She thought of so many little details that made planning easy, and still made a point of checking in with us and the venue night of. Soft Cell’s pioneering 1981 cover of the Northern Soul classic, “Tainted Love,” is the inspiration for this awesome 80s dance party. Building on a solid foundation of New Wave, we’ll dig deeper into the catalog of massive hits and overlooked misses from the late 70s through the early 90s – pivotal years in musical history that blurred the lines between Analog and Digital, Disco and Synthpop, Funk and Hip-Hop. A time when Alternative was called Post-Punk, Indie actually meant independent, and Throbbing Gristle’s “Hot on the Heels of Love” surely could have been alongside Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” on the charts…with today’s perspective. Other passions include CBGB-era New York, Batcave-era London – Punk Rock, Glam Rock, Kraut Rock, Girl Rock, Dad Rock, Rockabilly, Ska, Machine Soul, Blue-Eyed Soul, Darkwave, Coldwave – plus some guilty pleasures in the (strictly) Old-School Rap department.

“We could not have been happier with our experience with Stylus and DJ Mariko! Right off the bat, we were so appreciative of the upfront and comprehensive pricing options available, and the wide selection of DJs there are to pick from. My wife and I wanted our wedding to be a party and Mariko delivered that and more. So many times my friends came up to me saying it was the best wedding playlist/DJ experience they have ever had. The perfect balance of throw-backs and new hits, none of our “do-not-plays”, and ALL of our “must-plays” we literally did not leave the dance floor. Mariko also handled the ceremony and processional music PERFECTLY which I think is a big part of the reason it felt so magical. I cannot recommend the Stylus team, and especially Mariko, enough! “Hiring DJ Jen and Stylus was possibly the best decision we made in planning our wedding. She played the best wedding music we have ever heard.
We could not find a DJ who vibed with us in the Ithaca, NY area, so we contacted Stylus to see if one of their DJs was willing to travel. DJ Jen was eager to do so!
In planning, we gave Jen a list of songs and vibe that we liked and she played exactly what we wanted and used excellent judgment to keep people dancing. We are a gay couple and wanted a welcoming 80s gay club vibe throughout the night; we got exactly exactly what we wanted.
We got married at an outdoor reception venue during a hot day. We were worried that the heat would keep people from dancing but the whole dance floor was absolutely packed for the whole evening. People ranted and raved about how good DJ Jen’s music was (both during and after the wedding).
DJ Jen was so helpful throughout and managed MC’ing (in a nicely reserved, laidback way), dealing with a break between setup and start of music, and even a little rain that got on her equipment. She is exceptionally cool and really knows music. We are just so happy that Jen was our DJ.” -Nick J. – The Knot
